Competitive Soccer Program (Travel) is both a time and financial commitment for families, players, coaches, and volunteers. When becoming a member in a competitive team, it must be understood that you are committed to participate in all team functions which include practices, league games, tournaments and Club fundraisers. This is the first and most critical step to have a successful team, club, and individual experience. Also, many tournaments are scheduled over Holiday weekends.

We are committed to building a culture that is focused on the development of the children who become part of the Club and understand that with discipline, patience, and a passion to get better, a winning culture will persist. In our Soccer Program, we expect every member to believe that winning and losing as a team is paramount and do not operate as a group of loosely connected teams following separate and individual agendas. We have established this club with the intent to focus on the children and we will NOT let politics or conflicting agendas dilute the strong culture that we intend to foster at West Palm Beach FC.
As a result, we believe in a single, club-wide playing philosophy and style, which is defined by the Director of Coaching and implemented by all members of the club coaching staff. This helps to create a consistent learning environment throughout the program for all our players.
Our Approach to Competitive Player Development
We know that the best way to develop young players is for them to play with the ball on their feet as much as possible. We also understand that players develop at varying rates both physically and mentally. Therefore, some of our players may be moved from group to group based on how fast they develop and how their growth compares to other club members. If you at some point during the season stop attending or are unable to commit to the team schedule you may be asked to move off the team (you will be placed or asked to train with another team and or coach) until the coaching staff sees that you are able to and are consistently showing up to all required activities and events. We believe that competitive challenges are healthy for players and enable them to grow. We can and will challenge our players by allowing them the opportunity to move from group to group, and between different age groups, when warranted by their play.
Our goal is to create an environment that will stimulate the continued growth of our players by providing each of them with tools to get to the next level of play. As we lay out in our mission the movement of players will be done based on merit and intended earned benefit of the player and at the sole discretion of the club’s professional coaching staff. And the Director of Coaching and Player Development.
Player Development vs Winning
While we demand that our players strive to perform/win every time they take the field for training or a game, winning is a byproduct of our primary objective – developing individual high-level players in a competitive environment.
The club coaching staff will determine which games, if any, will take on this importance and may, at their sole discretion, field what they determine to be the most effective team in certain games (league playoffs, certain tournament games, etc.) where a positive result could help push the entire age group/team or the club to another level of play.
Every effort will be made to balance the good of the individual player versus the good of the entire age group/team and the club in general.
Playing Time
In Competitive Soccer, we ask our players to compete for everything including playing time in games. The club coaching staff fully understands the importance of players getting the opportunity to play in games and we will structure our annual game schedule to allow ample opportunities for players to play in games.
However, it is important for parents and players to understand that a player’s development takes place over the course of many months of practices, training and games — not in any one game. Unlike recreational programs, which is seasonal and playing time in all games is guaranteed, the Competitive Soccer Program runs year-round, with the objective of establishing a comprehensive game and training schedule that will provide each player with plenty of playing time. Our goal of developing individual high-level players is not dependent on playing in every game, but rather on playing with the ball on their feet as much as possible regardless if its practice or game situations. Although each player will get to play in most games, the amount of playing time is NOT guaranteed in every game. The coaching staff is instructed to manage the playing time of each player over the course of the entire program year.
Parent and Coach Communication
Our Club culture is not something we take lightly and are steadfast that the Club exists for the benefit of the kids that become members and develop through our youth system. As a result, supported by our experience, Coaches, Players, Parents, Club Directors and Volunteers all are expected to respect each other and work together in a professional manner. With that said, the Club is managed by experienced capable professionals and coaches and we expect parents and players alike to respect the decisions and direction of the club and teams. With that said, the Club believes that open and transparent communication, both good and uncomfortable, is our responsibility to parents and players.
To insure emotions and respect are in good form, we practice the 48-hour rule – please do not approach the coaching Staff regarding your player prior to a game or until 48 hours after said game. If you want to speak to the coach please ask for a meeting thus agreeing to an appropriate date and time.
Coaches’ tournament expenses
The team is to pay the coach’s reasonable travel expenses including air fare, as appropriate, accommodations (share rooms when possible), ground transportation @ $ 0.50 per mile and $30 per day for meals.
Dress Code & Equipment
To protect and promote the reputation of our Club and team, players are expected to wear the correct Club soccer gear when attending all practices, games (this includes the warm-up session before games), as well as Club/team functions. If you are not dressed in the appropriate Club soccer gear as instructed/required, you will be asked to leave. Modifications to the Club soccer gear and or equipment is not allowed.
Donations
A very important part of our mission is to provide access to competitive soccer to as many kids as possible. We have a fund-raising effort ongoing and we hope that our members, if able, can support this goal or at a minimum find sponsors or donations from each member’s personal network.
Volunteers
We need your help; there are many volunteer roles/jobs that need to be filled each soccer year.
